The Hunter
Birch and Fir layed in bed staring at each other seemingly as if time stood still.
"You've got a stray hair let me get it." Birch moved a hair out of Fir's eye and repositioned his arm beneath his head.
"My fur is kind of matted, I probably need a trim." Birch looked up a his stray hairs circling in all directions in his face.
Birch opened his mouth to say a few words but then Fir's memory shot back to the present moment.
The hunter stood before Fir and Birch standing at the entranceway of their home.
"I'm a human. And there are others like me. We are coming to decimate this village. Plain and simple. I am maintaining order. When animals gained the ability to speak human existence was charged with their extermination. I am here to fulfill that duty."
"I've already acted the failsafe. The anima energy in this village will detonate changing you back into nothing but a dumb animal. Everybody here is immune to the radiation already having been born here."
"I see you have a death wish?" The hunter grabbed his spear. It gleaned in the light. He was dressed in animal rags. Probably from killing some helpless creature.
"Birch I know I said we were gonna get married. I'm sorry I couldn't fulfill that promise. I never wanted to make you cry ever. So I'm sorry it has to be like this."
Fir before his marriage
"It's ok. Our time together was an adventure. Thank you for sharing it with me."
Fir smiled back at Birch and chanted the few words that activated the failsafe. Vicka Yogumi
Fir's body fell motionless into Birch's arms and the man before the two of them lost all sentience, becoming an unintelligent gentle husk. Birch took the spear from the man and cried into Fir's dead chest.
