Making time to think

I think everybody knows the benefits of thinking. Truly thinking. Coming up with your own philosophies on life. Because whether we like it or not, these philosophies on life that we come up with on our own, are probably the closest thing we have to actually being to be able to apply something to our own life.

I think in this way, we are our own best asset. Humans have so much potential, stored inside the crevices of the mind, largely overlooked because of the daily rat race that we all have to run. The struggle to be successful. The struggle to look our best everyday. The struggle to appear normal. We forget to just be at one with ourselves, and truly think? What is it I want to do with this life? We immediately self-deprecate and retreat back to the mundane thoughts. "There's no point in thinking about frivolous things, we don't have the luxury" But if we look at the great philosophers and spiritual leaders in time, we find that with great thought comes great power. We are not simply taking in information and regurgitating it as society deems it fit for us to do.

In your stream of consciousness, while you sit alone in the dark to be with your thoughts, it might dawn on you. "I am not living life the way it should be done." I am pushing myself too hard, trying to live up to this expectation that society has put on me. And why is this? "The struggle to be successful, the struggle to look our best everyday, and the struggle to appear normal." None of these three can be left when thinking about the way we "Should" live. And living life by ideals, will not do us good in the long run. Live practically, and realize the things that you should cut out. Doing that little extra thing to your hair in the morning is causing you to go back to your whole day becoming anxious about it. Rather than "thinking". And I really think in today's day and age, we have really brought the value of "thinking" down when it is one of the most practical things we can do with our time.
