Back in the day, nerd and geek culture used to be the center of much ridicule, with references to comics and tv series bordering on the obscure. But ever since the Disney takeover of properties such as Marvel and Star Wars, comic book geeks have risen to the mainstream.

Being a hobbyist or enthusiast is almost in itself a full-time job. Companies are constantly trying to stay updated with what fans want, and how to get their intellectual properties to sell. Starting a new hobby doesn't have to be as complicated as buying enough wool to start making rugs. It could be as simple as showing your enthusiasm as a fan of something. So you're a fan of 90's grunge? Why not share your admiration with others? In this age, nostalgia seems a hard thing to come by. It's rare to see people rummaging through old memories seeing if they can salvage anything worthwhile. Today it's mostly coming up with the next best idea. What makes viral content? Obviously something people haven't seen before.
Recently I've been marathoning the TV series Power Rangers and to my surprise I actually enjoy seeing the shows that I used to watch still holding up to today's standards. Power Rangers mystic force for example has this opening. It's a mix of rap and pop, which really was a testament to it's time, as this was one of the most popular song formats of the 2000's. In some ways I think the show was ahead of it's time. The rangers base is a combined station of both fantasy and technology. Roots of a tree serve as a base for the various computer screens, and visually the two blend together very well. And within this universe it is super functional, as it is both something that the modern rangers can understand, and also their master of the mystical arts Udana.
